Six service lines on one cladogram

Metazoa LLC structures data platforms, classification systems and integration pipelines for research and enterprise teams from Lehi, Utah of Metazoa LLC. The six services below are designed to be used together, but each stands on its own when a team needs to solve a single problem first. Together they form a single practice: classify the records, connect the platforms, preserve the result. Read each drawer in turn, or contact us to scope the branch that matters most to you.

Data Classification Systems

Classification is where a data estate either becomes traceable or loses its shape. We begin by inventorying the records your teams actually produce and consume, then define classes with clear membership rules, required fields and permitted values. Each class carries a definition, a steward and a set of handling expectations, so that a new engineer can place a record correctly without consulting tribal memory.

We then encode the classification rules into the systems that receive data on arrival, so that classification is applied consistently rather than by habit. The deliverable is a documented schema plus the assignment logic that keeps it honest, with sample records and edge cases worked through. Where regulatory categories matter, we map your classes to the terms auditors expect to see, without turning the model into a checklist that no one can maintain.

Platform Integration Engineering

Most organizations do not have one data platform; they have several, each built by a different team at a different time. We engineer the integration layer that lets those platforms exchange data reliably. That means adapters for each source, translation rules between formats, queues that absorb bursts, and reconciliation jobs that detect when a downstream copy has drifted from its origin.

Integration work is judged by what happens when something goes wrong. We design for partial failure, retries and idempotent writes so that a dropped connection does not create duplicate or missing records. The integration layer is documented as a set of contracts: what each side promises to send, what it expects to receive, and how violations are surfaced. That documentation is what allows the platform to survive staff changes and new sources being added years later.

Taxonomy Modeling Services

A taxonomy is the shared language of a data estate. We model the controlled vocabularies, hierarchical terms and cross relations that reflect how your teams genuinely speak about their work. Each term receives a definition, a scope note and a named steward, so that the vocabulary can grow without fragmenting into near-synonyms. We favour models that are expressive enough to be useful and small enough to be maintained.

We pay particular attention to the relationships between terms, because those relationships carry much of the meaning. Parent and child terms, related terms and deprecated terms are all recorded, along with the reasoning behind each choice. The resulting model can drive classification, search, reporting and integration at once, which is why we treat it as a foundational asset rather than a one-time document.

Pipeline Automation

Manual data handling does not scale and cannot be audited. We build automated pipelines that ingest, validate, transform and publish data on a schedule your teams can rely on. Every stage logs what it received, what it changed and what it produced, so that a question about a particular number can be answered by reading the trace rather than reconstructing events from memory.

Pipelines fail in predictable ways: late sources, schema changes, malformed rows and exhausted quotas. We design around those failures with validation gates, quarantine areas for suspect records and alerting that names the specific stage at fault. The pipeline becomes a piece of infrastructure with a clear operational contract, rather than a script that someone must watch by hand.

Research Data Curation

Research data arrives fragmented and inconsistent, often with provenance locked in a graduate student memory. We curate those datasets into governed collections with descriptive metadata, units, version history and lineage. Each collection is made citable, so that the data can support future work instead of quietly decaying on a shared drive once the original team disperses.

Curation is equal parts technical and editorial. We check that units are stated, that column meanings are recorded, and that the relationship between raw and derived data is preserved. Where datasets overlap, we document the relationship rather than merging them carelessly. The outcome is a research asset that a new collaborator can pick up years later and trust.

Access Governance Reviews

Access, once granted, is seldom revisited. We review who can reach which data, identify the sensitive branches of the estate, and recommend a permission model that matches real responsibilities rather than historical accident. The review covers both broad role-based access and the specific exceptions that tend to accumulate around particular projects.

Each review produces a documented decision trail: what access exists, why it was granted, what should change and who approved the change. That trail is what makes the review useful to auditors, boards and future stewards. We do not simply hand over a list of revocations; we leave behind a repeatable practice your team can run on its own schedule.

Process Overview

Four movements, one preserved structure

Trace

We map sources, owners and dependencies to locate the true roots of the data estate before changing anything.

Classify

We define classes, vocabularies and rules, then encode assignment logic so records land correctly.

Connect

We engineer integration and automation so platforms exchange data reliably and failures are visible.

Govern

We set access, provenance and review practices so the structure survives handover and audit.
